An original
radical resection technique for post-radiated cancer of the distal 3cm of rectum
is presented. The procedure is initiated
transanally, followed by an abdominal phase and a transanal, hand-sewn, direct
coloanal anastomosis. Performed in over
110 patients, data indicate an 85% five-year survival and a 9% local recurrence
rate.
