Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEM) has opened new options for surgeons and patients with rectal lesions.  Under stereoscopic vision, TEM permits transanal excision of polyps and select cancers whose superior border extends to the mid and upper rectum.  When selectively utilized with adjunctive radio or chemoradiotherapy, TEM is also a new option for treating rectal cancers.
